In the past, Sokcho was only a small fishing village, but after the Korean War, the population increased significantly and rapidly grew as displaced people from the north gathered.
Currently Sokcho Tourism and Fish Market which is the only traditional market in Sokcho is located in the place where it was called Yongsogol because of the legendary pond that a dragon appeared.
After the Korean War, in 1953, a market building was built in a place filled with rice paddies and puddles, and a market was opened.
